Thomas Ernest Clayton

27 July 1953 – 30 September 2020
Thomas Ernest Clayton was born in Orleans, France, to a proud Soldier of 24 years, Thomas Brooks Clayton, Jr. and Kathryn Johnson Clayton on 27 July 1953 and died in Sanford, Florida on 30 September 2020. Ernie died in the Central Florida Regional Hospital after a short illness.
Ernie, as he was known by his family, went to several primary, elementary, and high schools and graduated Mainland High School in Daytona Beach, Florida in 1972. Immediately, following his graduation he joined the United States Army where he served for seven years in the Signal Corps. Ernie spoke often of his service in the Army, where he served in Viet Nam, Germany and in the United States. A proud veteran, he was always a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars wherever he lived and worked after he was honorably discharged from the Army in 1979. However, he is most notably remembered for his work in the VFW Post 426 in Westminster, MD where he served for many years.
Ernie is preceded in death by his wife, Judy Ann Clayton, of Sanford FL, parents, Thomas Brooks Clayton, Jr. and Kathryn Johnson Clayton, both of Midway, GA; sisters, Diane Gise and Priscilla Boone, both of Milledgeville, GA. Survivors include two children, Amy Dawn Wolf, of Abbotstown, PA; and Thomas Brooks Clayton, III of Sanford, FL. Ernie leaves four grandchildren Jeffrey Leigh Clayton; Wallace Garfield Wolf, III; Joshua Alan Wolf; and Quinn Clayton and 10 great grand children. He is also survived by a sister, Kathy (Mel) Hanson of Palatka, FL; brothers, Duane (Karen) Clayton of Ivey, GA; and Philip (Julie) Clayton of Toomsboro, GA; Clay (Sharon) Taglioli, of Savannah, GA.
