Obituary for Steven J. Skocki
Steven J. Skocki, 48, passed away on July 13, 2021, in Winter Springs, FL.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at 11:00 am at Banfield Funeral Home located on 420 W. State Road 434, Winter Springs, FL. The service will be livestreamed through www.BanfieldFuneralHome.com. Chaplain Christopher Kreisher, MDiv will be officiating the service.
Steven J. Skocki was born in Columbus, OH to Stanley M. Skocki, Jr. and Naomi L. Skocki on December 19, 1972. Steven graduated Olentangy High School in Delaware, OH. He graduated from Otterbein University in Westerville, OH with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. After college, Steve moved to New York City and was an actor. Among his many roles, he played in an off-Broadway production of the Secret Garden. He later worked at the Scandinavia House, the Brooklyn Library, and Standards & Poor’s. He found his calling as a teacher and moved to South Korea teaching English, music, and various subjects at several educational institutions including his own school. He later relocated to Thailand and continued his teaching at St. Theresa International College.
Steve was a teacher, a student, a musician, an actor, and a friend. He saw the world, and learned and valued other cultures. Throughout his life he could pick up an instrument and play it, find a language and speak it, and make and keep friends from all corners of the globe. He will be sorely missed by all those who knew him.
Steve is survived by his mother, Naomi Skocki, brother, Stan (Suellen) Skocki, sisters, Susan (Dale) Chapman and Sharon (Chad) Wampler, nephews (Jacob, Stanley, and Samuel), nieces (Olivia, Grace, and Gabrielle), and dear friend, Patch. He is preceded in death by his father Stan and his nephew (Luke Wampler).
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the doctors and nurses who provided care for Steven. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to VITAS Community Connection and/or the American Cancer Society.
