Obituary for Shirley K Parker
With extremely heavy hearts we announce the passing of Shirley Katherine Parker, known to all who loved her as Kay. She passed peacefully at home on June 28th, 2020 with her son and family by her side.
She is deeply missed and survived by her son Christopher Coleman, grandson CJ, brothers Tim Owen and Rick Owen, her sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends.
She was predeceased by her loving mother Mary “Ma” Owen, and her youngest son Cy.
Kay was a woman of many sides. She had a quiet side, a fun & crazy side, and an adventurous side. She was fiercely independent and confident. She was humble but strong, stable but rebellious, a fighter yet tender and she was giving but not naïve. She was an advocate for what she believed in and those she loved. She never let life get the better of her; she endured, overcame, learned and moved on. She inspired other woman with her strength, independence, and confidence.
One of her favorite quotes was, “It’s what I wish for you a life with no regrets” by Katharine Hepburn.
Kay lived her life to the fullest. She had a few favorite sayings that anyone who knew her would immediately recognize as hers when they heard them. They were, “Just Keeping it Real”, “Happy Trails”, and “Chicken One Day, Feathers the Next”.
She loved butterflies, windchimes, the Wizard of Oz, art, concerts, traveling, camping, the beach, her work and God.
What she held the closest to her heart and loved above all else was the memories she created with her friends and her family.
Kay will be missed but never forgotten by all those whose lives she touched and loved.
Her family will be having a “Celebration of Life” in lieu of a service for Kay on Saturday, August 1st at Fort De Soto Park.
