Obituary for Sarah Ann Du-Rant Sherwood
Sarah Ann DuRant-Sherwood, 81, of Casselberry, FL, passed away in the comfort of her own home on September 27, 2020. Sarah was a lifetime resident of Central Florida. Sarah was born on September 18, 1939 to Leo and Daisy DuRant.
Sarah attended Winter Park High School where she participated in women’s intramural sports, glee club, theater, chorus, and cheerleading. She later attended Rollins College where she obtained her bachelor’s in communications.
Sarah’s life was most notable for her passion for music. Sarah started singing practically before she could walk. Sarah first appeared on local radio at the age of five, since then she never looked back as she continued to share her incredible gift at school and church during her childhood. After high school, Sarah continued to pursue music and could be found in community theater, clubs, and the recording studio. Up until her passing, you could find Sarah singing at Tuskawilla United Methodist Church with her daughter and friends.
Sarah was a phenomenal writer and believed in the importance of women’s rights. She loved to garden, work on craft projects with her family, decorate her home for the holidays, and was always ready for a good puzzle to work on or great book to read. She loved visiting the mountains. Her favorite city was Savannah, where she spent a memorable vacation exploring the city with her sisters, Nancy, and Mary. Another of her go-to spots was Helen, GA. Sarah was always full of energy and was a true fashionista.
Sarah was survived by her children, Paul McEwan and Diana Gibison; her grandchildren, Hannah, Danielle, Aaron, and Matthew; her great-grandchild, Ezekiel; her sisters, Virginia Alderman, Nancy Everill, and Mary Huff; nine nieces and nephews and 13 great nieces and nephews.
Sarah was predeceased by her son, David, and nephew, Jay.
Private services will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2020, at Tuskawilla United Methodist Church. A Zoom link can be found on the Tuskawilla website www.tumcfl.org for off-site attendance or you can visit the TUMC Facebook page at a later date to view a recording of the service. The family asks that donations be made to the Sarah Sherwood Memorial Fund at Tuskawilla United Methodist in lieu of flowers.
