Rachel Lee Garrett, born on October 12, 1932 in Durham, NC, peacefully passed away on July 28, 2023, at the age of 90 in Sanford, FL. Rachel will forever be remembered as a kind-hearted individual who selflessly dedicated her life to helping others.
Heaven has truly welcomed one of their own, as Rachel was an Angel on earth. Having survived the great depression, she gained a sense of strength that she applied lovingly by volunteering in church, at the food pantry, and through Stephen Ministry. Rachel “walked-the-walk” and set an inspiring example for others to follow.
Rachel is survived by her beloved daughter, Susan Lynn Salter Dolan, and son-in-law, Jason Alexander Dolan. She will also be deeply missed by her cherished grandsons, James Vaughan, DeWayne Vaughan, Bobbie Lee Vaughan, and Shawn Michael Clayton, as well as her great- granddaughter, Leah Rose Lopez. Rachel is also survived by her nephew, Edward Terry, nephew David Terry, niece Jennifer Beck Hall, and many more family members and loved ones.
Rachel was preceded in death by her father, Edward Page Garrett, her mother, Margaret Haygrety Garrett, her daughter, Amy Lee Salter, her granddaughter, Jennifer Lee Salter, her sister, Margaret Terry, and her sister, Mary Ann Beck.
Rachel dedicated 38 years of her life to Duke Hospital, where she made a significant impact through her hard work and dedication.
A Celebration of Life will take place on September 16, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. Family and friends will gather at the Pine Valley Church, 3788 Shipyard Blvd. Wilmington, NC 28403, to honor Rachel's remarkable journey and the lasting impact she had
on the lives of those around her.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Rachel's memory to local hospice agencies. Your contributions will help support the compassionate care that hospice agencies provide to those in need.
Rachel Lee Garrett's legacy of kindness, strength, and selflessness will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing her. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
