Pong Hui “Connie” Chartier

Pong Hui “Connie” Chartier was born Pong Hui Chon in Chungnam Korea to Hyon Kum Chon, and Yu Pok KU. Her husband Richard Rene Joseph Chartier passed on September 8th 2008. The two met in Korea while Richard was active duty Army and married on Aug 16 1966. They settled in Massachusetts after moving back to the United States. In 1977 they had their only child together, Genie. The family moved to Florida in 1986 where Pong Hui opened a dry-cleaning business.
“Connie” as her customers came to know her was loved by the community. She spent 30 years in the Ocoee Florida area running her dry-cleaning business. She was a friend to anyone she met and would give you the shirt off her back. She retired in 2012 but never slowed down. In March of 2020 if you had driven by her home you would have seen her chopping down the tree in the front yard.
Pong Hui Chartier died from COVID on May 28 2020 at home surrounded by loved ones. She is survived by her daughter Genie Dolly Chartier and her family in Korea. Due to COVID there will not be an immediate service. A notice will be posted when the local memorial service is planned. Genie will be taking her mother’s ashes back to Korea in one year and will be conducting a traditional ancestor ceremony there.
