Obituary for Michael Vinelli
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael F. Vinelli on May 2, 2020. Michael passed away peacefully at home in Altamonte Springs, Florida at the age of 76. He was born in Queens, New York on October 1, 1943.
He is survived by his adoring wife of over 35 years, Gloria Vinelli and his stepmother, Inez Vinelli, his beloved stepchildren, Vincent (Carol), Sal (Pam), Ross (Denise) and his cherished grandchildren, Zachary, Samantha, Manny, Ashley, Emily, Giancarlo and Tiegan. Michael is also survived by his siblings, Bob (Ann, deceased), Richard (Maryann), Ron (Jackie) and Laura (Kurt), and his brother-in-law Richard Mendola. He was predeceased by his parents Mike and Kay Vinelli, and his first wife Nancy Vinelli.
Michael grew up in the Bronx and was always proud of his Bronx roots. He lived in Rockland County, New York for over 25 years, and lived in Altamonte Springs, Florida since 1991.
Michael was a Navy veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He received numerous honors, including a Combat Action Ribbon, a Vietnam Services Medal with Bronze star, and the National Defense Service Medal. Michael served as the ship’s chef on the USS Davis (DD 937). Mike was a Shellback, a Blue Water and a Boots on the Ground sailor. He sailed all over the world.
Michael’s dogs brought great joy to his life. He took care of them with tremendous love and respect. He liked to drive and work on his vehicles. He was a member of the U.S. Corvette Club and travelled to many of their events and shows, winning many awards. He also travelled throughout the Country with his wife, Gloria, visiting all of the continental United States.
Cooking was Michael’s occupation and his passion throughout his life. He owned and operated various restaurants and catering businesses in New York and Florida, including Vinelli Catering.
Michael always enjoyed time with his family, especially his loving children and grandchildren. His passion for food always brought his family together. He loved helping others learn to cook. His recipes will be cherished and shared with generations to come.
Services will be announced at a later time. The family would like to thank Right at Home, especially Hollie Strazza, and Hospice of the Comforter for the loving care they provided for Michael, especially the help received from Charimar Lopez Cardon.
