James Paul Myers, "Paul" of Altamonte Springs, Florida passed away peacefully from this life into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 25, 2024. Paul leaves behind a legacy filled with love, inspiration and wisdom. A life that is full of meaning and well cherished is never long enough. Paul was a Christian, a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Paul will be remembered for his integrity, leadership, kindness and willingness to assist in any capacity.
Paul was born on September 25, 1929 in High Point, North Carolina. He was the son of the late James Worth and Ella Inscore Myers. Paul grew up on a farm with his brother and eight sisters. He married Nora Lee Pierce on September 22, 1951. Their union lasted 71 years and they were blessed with three children, eight grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.
He graduated from Trinity High School, where he was a member of the National Beta Club, the football team and drove a school bus. He began working for Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company which later became PPG Industries. He started out beveling glass by hand and quickly moved from the warehouse to the office. In the office, he worked with the draftsmen and managers to learn the glass construction business. While in High Point he installed almost every storefront on Main Street along with the glass in the Furniture Mart and other buildings in the surrounding area including Winston Salem. In December 1968, PPG relocated his family to Florida. He ran the Southeast Construction Division for PPG Industries. During his career he had contracts in the building of Walt Disney World, the Florida State Capitol along with many of the major office buildings in Orlando, Tampa, and South Florida. He worked for PPG for forty-one years. Then he owned his own company, Commercial Glass Products for twelve years.
Faith was a guiding factor in Paul's life. He became a Christian as a young child. He was a deacon and Trustee at Gateway Church, formerly known as Killarney Baptist Church. He was active with his grandchildren and the different activities that they were involved in consisting of school projects, sports, and just spending time together.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five of his sisters, Crystal, Doris, Dell, Betty, and Faye. He is survived by his three children: Randy Myers of Altamonte Springs, Julia Johnston, New Hampshire, Paula Pylant (Allen) of Altamonte Springs. Also, surviving are eight grandchildren: Laura Banfield (Korey), David Myers (Robyn), Daniel Myers (Brianna), Emily Myers, Billy Johnston (Ivonne), Spencer Pylant, Austin Pylant (Bethany), and Grayson Pylant (Gabrielle). His surviving twelve great-grandchildren are: Charley, Catherine, and Jack Myers; Brooks and Baron Myers; Benjamin, Lucia, Noah, Maryam and Nathan Johnston; Olivia and Luke Pylant. Paul is also survived by his brother and three sisters: Frank Myers (Cleo), Lee Harbinson, Gerry Hollingsworth, and Fran Zimmerman.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Gateway Church in Winter Park, FL on June 29th.
Services will be held on Saturday July 13th at Poplar Ridge Friends Meeting in Trinity, NC.
Visitation at 9:45am and the Funeral Service at 11:00am.
