SSG Jackie “Pappaw” Lee Pounds, USA, Retired
SSG Jackie “Pappaw” Lee Pounds, USA, Retired, of Orlando, Fla., passed away peacefully at AdventHealth East Orlando on Monday, October 2, 2023.
SSG Pounds was born on May 18, 1935, in Knoxville, Tenn., the second of nine children to Mary Elizabeth and Theodore Roosevelt Pounds. He married his eternal love, Betty “Nanny” Jo Pounds, and raised three children, Clifford, Betty and Joy.
A more than 20-year military veteran, SSG Pounds served in the United States Air Force, then served 20 additional years in the United States Army with distinction before his retirement from service in 1975. This time includes one tour in Vietnam, where SSG “Papa-san” Pounds served in the 59th Engineers Land Clearing Company. He was decorated 13 times including the Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal and additional commendations for his service and conduct.
SSG Pounds was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather—and loved spending time with his family. In his retirement he became an avid golfer and collector of stray golf balls. He will be dearly missed by those he leaves behind.
He is survived by his three children: daughter, Betty (Stan) Kiejko of Orlando, Fla.; son, Clifford (Peggy Palfy) Perry of Orlando, Fla.; daughter Joy Hochreiter of Ocala, Fla.
He is also survived by three of his siblings: Sophronia Paralee Johnson of Chattanooga, Tenn.; Carl Pounds of Knoxville, Tenn.; Edward (Jewell) Pounds of Knoxville, Tenn.
SSG Pounds is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Stanley (Stacy) Kiejko III of Rockford, Ill.; Tiffany (Steven) Jones of Titusville, Fla.; Shawn Kiejko of Orlando, Fla.; Joshua Perry of Orlando, Fla.; Amanda (Jason) Moody of Orlando, Fla.; Kimberly (Richard) Harris of Davenport, Fla.; and Faith Goltry of Orlando, Fla.—as well as 13 great-grandchildren: Jordynn Curenton, Shaelyn Rowan, Madison Kiejko, Austen Moody, Baily Kiejko, Steven Jones Jr., Slade Jones, Julia Radkowski, Mackenzie Moody, Gabriel Harris, Filip Perry, Lillith Harris, Zinnia Harris—and nieces and nephews too numerous to list individually.
SSG Pounds was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter-in-law Rondi Perry, and five siblings: Harold (Irene) Pounds, Mary Jo Bellassai, Brenda Riley, Ann Elise Poor and George Pounds.
