Obituary for Edgar Baez

Edgar Baez, age 56, of Altamonte Springs, Florida, passed away in the presence of loved ones on September 8, 2024.

Born April 20, 1968, in Utuado, Puerto Rico, he was the son of Juan Baez Cortes and Marina Valentin Arce. He grew up surrounded by his immediate family, who cared for him after his mother and father passed away at an early age.

He moved to Vineland, New Jersey around the age of 12 and was raised by his older brother and sisters, being the youngest in the family. Edgar felt loved and cared for by his family, who supported him throughout his childhood. He graduated from Vineland High School in 1986 and went on to complete his education at Lincoln Technical in 1995, beginning a career in technology that would last the rest of his life.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Evelyn Baez. She was his “Queen,” and he adored her. He was always grateful for her sacrifices as a mother and admired her dedication to putting her family first. He is also survived by three children: his son, Edgar Baez Jr., age 34; his daughter, Priscilla Sarah Baez, age 30; and his youngest son, Joshua Michael Baez, age 29. Edgar Jr. thanks him for teaching him that the most important things in life are one's partner and children. His only daughter was his princess, and he saw no wrong in her. Joshua is the baby of the family and looked just like his dad; Joshua thanks him for the many sacrifices Edgar made to give him what he wanted. He also leaves behind two grandchildren: Josephine Lily Baez, age 5, and Penelope Luann Baez, age 2. Edgar loved Josephine dearly and was proud of the obstacles she overcame and the person she has become. He always had a special place in his heart for her. Edgar also cherished Penelope, who was his twin. They shared the same smile, hair, and “chubby cheeks,” and he loved the joy she brought to the family.

Edgar was an avid sports fan who enjoyed rooting for teams like the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies. He loved boxing and looked forward to events where he could invite friends and family to watch together. Edgar had a great sense of humor; his favorite pastimes included watching comedy sitcoms and movies. His favorite shows were Seinfeld, Everybody Loves Raymond, and Martin, while his favorite movies included The Money Pit, My Cousin Vinny, and Back to the Future.

Edgar loved making his friends and family laugh. He was a great storyteller who could weave embellishments into his stories to bring joy and laughter to others. His family will miss hearing his stories and his infectious laugh.

Edgar had a passion for technology and hardware, especially home theater systems and computers. His two sons thank him for instilling in them a love for technology.

Edgar also had a deep interest in history and enjoyed watching documentaries about the history of the United States, Puerto Rico, the Civil War, and ancient civilizations. His favorite President was Abraham Lincoln.

Edgar LOVED coffee, which was a part of his daily life from as early as 10 years old.

He was known for his generosity, playfulness, humor, and dependability. Edgar was a loving and affectionate partner and father who shared his love freely and openly with his family.

A celebration of Edgar’s life will be held on September 21, 2024, at 10:30 AM at Iglesia Hispana CVV. All are welcome to attend. His burial will take place the same day at 1:30 PM at Edgewood-Greenwood Cemetery. Address details are provided below.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to help cover the cost of his burial. Edgar was independent and seldom asked for help, but his sudden death has created a need for additional support to fulfill his wish for a proper burial. Donations can be made here: https://gofund.me/3e87601b

As we mourn the loss of Edgar, we take comfort in the happy moments we shared with him. He would want us to celebrate his life by cherishing the memories and laughs we had together. During this time of grief, let us honor his memory by finding solace in the love and joy he brought into our lives. Edgar would want us to focus on the good times, and we hope that, in doing so, we can find peace and strength in the legacy he left behind.
