Barbara Margaret Hunt
Barbara Hunt, 83, passed away November 20, 2025, in Orlando, Florida, with her sons Charles and William by her side.
Born April 12, 1942, in New York City, Barbara was raised in Queens with her parents James and Catherine Allen, brother James Patrick Allen (who predeceased her in 2012), and sister Elizabeth Ann Scalice. In her twenties, she moved to California, working for Bank of America and Leslie Salt Company.
Barbara married Ronald Oscar Lorenzen in 1963; he died in an accident in 1973. She married Kenneth Brose Hunt in 1975, and together they adopted and raised their sons Charles and William in Newark, California. After Ken's death in 1989, Barbara moved with her sons to Massapequa Park, New York in 1991, where she lived until relocating to Orlando in 2022.
Known for her exceptional memory for music, especially Irish folk songs, Barbara loved traveling to places including Mexico and Ireland, where she kissed the Blarney Stone and explored her ancestral homeland. She worked by caring for elderly individuals, at Anton Publishing, and SUNY Farmingdale. Above all, Barbara treasured her family—especially her close bond with her sister Liz—and insisted on being called "Nana" by her grandchildren. She opened her home warmly to family and friends alike. In her later years, macular degeneration gradually diminished her sight which limited her travel and eventually her independence.
Barbara is survived by her sons Charles (Gabriela) and William Hunt (Amy), her sister Elizabeth Ann Scalice, and her grandchildren.
